In the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta, the Armorer is a little nuts. As a result, 5 of the 17 test weapons cannot be played. With a little trick you can still use the weapons of the “Lachmann Platform”.
Modern Warfare 2 beta testing is in full swing on PlayStation. Pre-orderers can already do their first laps. The open beta on the PlayStation starts on Sunday evening. The other platforms (Xbox and PC) won’t come until next week.
In the first week you can go up to level 15, actually even up to level 16. In the progress menu you can see that the level 16 unlocks are already available. Also included: the Lachmann-556, which is visually reminiscent of the Grau 5.56 from Warzone.
Nasty, however: The weapon cannot be equipped in the armory. Since this is a complete weapon platform, 5 weapons are not available at once.
However, there is a little trick how you can still use the gun in the beta. We include the German trailer for the beta here:
CoD MW2 Beta: Overkill trick gives access to Lachmann weapons
How can I use the weapon? Go to the “Weapon” tab and select one of your multiplayer loadouts. Choose an Extra Pack that doesn’t include the Overkill perk.
Change your primary weapon to the Expedite 12 shotgun. The second weapon doesn’t matter.
Now select an extra package again and this time change it to a package that contains overkill. Now you automatically have the Lachmann-556 as a second weapon.
The other weapons can now also be unlocked via the base platform. Among them the Lachmann MP, which is pretty clearly an MP5. Shortly after the release of the beta, the MP5 is considered to be the best MP in the game.
The Armorer in general has gone through some changes and is now more complicated. We explained exactly how the new system works in another article:
CoD Modern Warfare 2’s new Gunsmith is somewhat Pay2Win, but reduces the level grind significantly
Apart from that, the first beta phase runs without many bugs. The servers had a few small dropouts of a few minutes and some players complained about game crashes. Developer Infinity Ward is on the problem (via twitter.com).
If you want to take a look at the beta yourself, you can do so without pre-ordering. For PlayStation players, the second weekend (starting September 22nd) is even fully open beta. PC players can try for free starting September 24th.
All information about the beta can be found in our big special: CoD Modern Warfare 2: All information about the beta – participation, download & content.
