The trend with an increased number of cases of reported threats and violence between inmates in prisons continued in 2024, the Prison and Probation Service notes in their annual report. The increase was 25 percent, from 1,111 to 1,398 cases.
The violence has also become more serious, which increases the risks of fatal outcome, warns the Prison and Probation Service. Two other trends are also identified. That the violence was more often exerted open to staff and that groups of five to seven inmates gave up on a lonely inmate.
The development is linked to space deficiency and that many share living rooms with another inmate.
