You can now stream the first Will Smith film since his 2022 Oscar scandal on Apple TV+. In Emancipation he plays after a true story the slave Peter, who flees to the army of the northern states.
Also starring is Ben Foster, who embodies a merciless slave hunter in search of Smith’s main character. On the set, he took his role so seriously that he Smith ignored for months.

On the Emancipation set, Ben Foster didn’t even look Will Smith in the eye
According to the Independent, Smith spoke as a guest on the Red Table Talk about his co-star on the Emancipation set getting into a consistent form of method acting has boosted:
Ben just walked past me and didn’t say anything. I thought, ‘Oh, he must not have seen me.’ And then he didn’t speak to me for six months, he didn’t make eye contact with me, he didn’t say a word. He didn’t recognize me for six months.
Smith was confused at first, but then he understood Fosters radical approach to on-set vibes. Then, on the very last day of shooting, Foster held out his hand to Smith and said: “Nice to meet you.”
When the two then went on a press tour together, Smith didn’t even recognize his co-star. In contrast to the tough, dismissive nature on the set, he found Foster to be a very kind soul.
