Countless roguelites spring up on Steam every week, but not all of them are worth playing. Roboquest is one of the better games and, in addition to its Borderlands-inspired visuals, has incredibly good gameplay that is reminiscent of Doom.
Roboquest was in early access for a while and was finally released as a 1.0 version on November 7th. The game offers a lot to fans of shooters and roguelites:
At first glance, Roboquest looks like the roguelite shooter Gunfire Reborn, but at its core it offers a different shooter feel.
Precise, powerful and above all fun gameplay
Roboquest’s fast gameplay is based on games like Doom. You have rocket jumps, rails that you can slide on and a solid level design that rewards good movement. It’s fast, but always feels precise and powerful.
In a run you can find random weapons and perks that match the current build. The weapons feel different and require a different style of play depending on the build. Aggressive action is even rewarded because you can collect more items for healing. If you stand at the back and try to snipe the enemies, you are safer, but if you get hit, healing is more difficult.
That’s why mastering the movement in the game is the be-all and end-all.
The 6 different classes all have different playstyles that you can specify as you level up in a run. Whether you’re a big tank or a sniper with lots of critical hits, many play styles are possible. Due to the combination of different weapons, which you should constantly change within the run due to the weapon values, hardly any run feels the same.
You can adjust the level of difficulty as you wish. The game is really hard, but after each run you always learn a little more and get better at the game mechanically. The icing on the cake is that you can play the game in co-op with a friend.
It’s a fun roguelike shooter
The Steam community is also enthusiastic about the game. Out of 8,179 reviews, 95% are positive. (As of: December 15, 2023)
