Club icon Stig Salming about Brynäs today – powerful words all supporters should hear: “Unbelievably good”

Brynäs has started the season well.
Club icon Stig Salming sees a good chance for promotion.
– I hope and believe it will go smoothly, he says to Sportbibeln.

Stig Salmings parent club is Kiruna AIF. But as a 20-year-old, the defender went from Salmi to Brynäs IF. Stig then remained there for the rest of his career. Immediately after his playing career, the then 34-year-old Salming became an assistant coach at the club. After one season, he took over the main responsibility, and it remained that way for five seasons.

Salming’s tribute

It is therefore mainly Brynäs that Stig Salming is associated with today.

Last season, Brynäs left the SHL. This season, the club is not playing in the Swedish top flight for the first time since the 70s. But the supporters have not given up on it. In all of Brynäs’ six home matches, the audience figure has reached over 6,000 people, and in three of the matches, over 7,000 have come to the Monitor ERP Arena.

The club now leads the audience league in Hockeyallsvenskan, something Salming praises.
– I think it’s great fun to see that the audience stands up and really supports this. We pretty much have full stands in every single game, and that’s incredibly good. It is enough to state that all those interested in sports line up in Gävle to support this “comeback”, so to speak. So I hope and believe that this will go smoothly, says Stig to Sportbibeln.

Hope for Brynäs

Can Brynäs rise again this season?
– It is not an easy task. You can only state that considering all the teams that have tried, and how difficult it has been. But I think that Brynäs has started well and put together a good constellation on the leading side and you have a good team on paper that should be able to make this trip. But it remains to be seen how to succeed during the season, and to avoid injuries and things like that. That you can keep the team as intact as necessary, says Salming.

The 76-year-old has good hope that Brynäs will soon play in the SHL again.
– Now you are leading the series and I think you have shown that you are capable of getting better. It is probably a little more that you have to have a little fluency and luck in the decisive stages later on. So they absolutely have the opportunity to realize their goal of trying to get back, I think so.
