MMO giant Nexon’s free multiplayer game Warhaven wanted to be like Call of Duty with knights. But after 4 months on Steam, lousy reviews and even worse player numbers, Nexon gives up the mission. The medieval game will close its servers forever in April 2024.
What kind of game is Warhaven?
Little hype and then the players stayed away
What were the player numbers? It started badly and quickly became disastrous:
What do the reviews say? With 58% positive reviews you are playing for the golden pineapple on Steam: that kind of value doesn’t attract anyone.
In the reviews, a player with 168 hours particularly criticizes the balance of Warhaven: the hammer is far too strong as a weapon, the spear is far too weak.
Others criticize that the game was better in the beta than when it was released. The squad size was reduced and you could only appear as Immortal once per game, but this was the fun part of the game.
With a game like this, a death spiral comes into effect: If so few people play, then the servers are empty and you wait too long for a match to open. That’s exactly what a user criticized on January 25th, shortly before Nexon announced the end of Warhaven.
How does it end now? Nexon has announced that it will close the game on April 5, 2024.
