A study published in The Lancet, the world’s most prestigious medical journal, suggests that the millions of lives lost to cancer worldwide each year are preventable.
US experts reviewed the impact of occupational, environmental and behavioral risk factors on the 23 deadliest cancers in the world.
MOST DANGEROUS RISKS: SMOKING, ALCOHOL AND OBESITY
They suggested that 4.45 million (44.4 percent) of cancer deaths that occurred in 2019 were due to external factors. They cited smoking, alcohol and obesity as the most dangerous risks to cause cancer.
The majority (3.7 million) of global cancer deaths caused by external factors are caused by factors such as smoking, alcohol and unhealthy diet. These habits trigger diseases such as early death and disability, as well as cancer.
