Close to 100 kangaroos were found shot dead at a military base in the Hunter Valley area north of Sydney in Australia in October. At the scene, the police found a box of ammunition and empty casings.

Now a 43-year-old man suspected of the crime is charged, Australian media reports. Police managed to track the suspected shooter to a residence and during a search, a number of weapons were seized, including a hunting rifle.

The 43-year-old is charged with gross animal cruelty, hunting offences, weapons offenses and illegal trespassing. He has been released on bail pending a trial in January.
