Hundreds of researchers, debaters and scientists will gather on two different occasions in Sweden to discuss challenges and opportunities with climate-related work. The first, Swedish Climate Symposium 2024, is organized by SMHI in Norrköping on 15–17 May. And the 23 – 29 June is arranged IUFRO World Congress in Stockholm. Where 5,000 participants will discuss how the world’s forests can be managed sustainably in a future perspective.

SMHI hosts international climate symposium

Sweden is the host country for two major symposiums in 2024 where climate and sustainability are in focus. On 15 – 17 May, 400 researchers and social actors are welcomed Swedish Climate Symposium 2024 in Norrköping, arranged by SMHI and coordinated by Lund University, as well as The Bolin Center for Climate Research at Stockholm University. The aim is to increase the scientific understanding of climate change and its consequences.

– Climate research plays a decisive role in the understanding of climate processes, future development, the effects of climate change and society’s actions. During the symposium there is an opportunity for researchers to share knowledge and experiences, and for social actors to meet and collaborate and take part in current research, says Ralf Döscher, climate scientist at SMHI and chairman of the steering group for the climate symposium.

World congress on forestry attracts 4,000 participants

The other major host that Sweden stands for is IUFRO’s (International unions of forest research organizations) world congress. It is the world’s largest congress around research and development in forest matters where IUFRO has chosen to place its 26th world congress in Stockholm with a solid program between June 23 – 29 at the Stockholm Fair, where some events are open to the public. SLU is responsible for hosting.
