Climate activists poured mashed potatoes on Monet

Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

It is the group Letzte Generation (Sista Generationen in Swedish) that claims to be behind the campaign. In a video on social media, the protest group writes that art will not be worth anything in the future if you have to fight for food because of the climate crisis.

“If it takes us throwing mashed potatoes or tomato soup to make society see that fossil fuels are about to kill us, we’ll give you mashed potatoes,” they write.

It is unclear whether Letzte Generation has any connection to the group Just Stop Oil, which a few weeks ago threw tomato soup at a Vincent van Gogh painting in London.

Most expensive Monet painting ever

“Les Meules” is the most expensive Monet painting ever sold at auction, fetching $111 million – the equivalent of roughly 1.2 billion kroner, in 2019.

The private Barberini Museum states that the painting was protected by glass and that the mashed potatoes damaged the frame, but not the canvas itself.

The two climate activists have been arrested on suspicion of vandalism and illegal trespassing, according to the police.
