Clever episode in Helsinki – the bronze medalist of the running race finished with a hook in his calf: “Maybe fishing should have been banned” | Sport

Clever episode in Helsinki the bronze medalist of the

The Helsinki half marathon became a painful ordeal for Estonian runner Leonid Latsepov.

Estonian Leonid Latsepov ran third on Saturday in the Helsinki City Running Day half marathon. From Latsepov’s point of view, the placement that came off at 1.07.06 could have been easier.

The race, which starts near the Helsinki Olympic Stadium and ends at the stadium, went smoothly all the way to the Lauttasaari bridge.

While crossing a bridge known as a popular fishing spot, the fisherman raised his fishing line from the sea, and a gust of wind would blow it straight towards the Estonian runner.

The fishing line wrapped around Latsepov’s calf, among other things. In Maal’s first aid, four hooks were removed from him, some from his clothes and some from his leg.

– I didn’t feel pain right away. I tried to remove the hooks, but nothing came of it. It did ruin my run, the final time would have been a minute better. Herring fishing is also popular in Estonia, but I didn’t think this would ever happen to me, Latsepov said after the run.

Without the unfortunate event, Latsepov could have finished second. Running for silver Julius Muriuki beat Latsepov by 18 seconds. Ran to victory in the men’s half marathon Solomon Boit on 1.04.25.

– Maybe fishing should have been banned during the race on the bridge with such a strong wind, or a greater safety distance should have been set between the fishermen and the runners. Well, there’s something to remember.

Vainio is waiting for the Olympic place to be decided

In the women’s half marathon Alisa Vainio ran to victory by far with a time of 1.13.40. Vainio won the race by almost five and a half minutes ahead of Ukraine to Nataliia Semenovytsh.

For Vainio, it was more about a training run after the Copenhagen marathon a week ago.

In Copenhagen, Vainio recorded the second best time of his career in 2:28:32, which secured his position in the Paris Olympic Marathon ranking. The Paris marathon ranking closed on May 5.

Now Vainio is waiting for confirmation of his Olympic place.

– I’m really looking forward to it, and the information may come in the next few days, Vainio said in SUL’s press release.

– My condition is improving, but after the winter training, I haven’t had time to do enough hard exercises yet. From now on, speed training and then more races.

He ran to victory in the men’s marathon Oscar Holmström on 2.24.11.

Holmström, 31, rose to the national top a few years ago almost stealthily. Last year, he took silver in the SC marathon. The record is also from last year, 2.21.29.
