Clear sign for more surveillance cameras in Huddinge – the municipality gets the right in court

The decision also means that surveillance cameras may be set up in more places in Vårby gård’s center. The court considers that the interest in surveillance weighs heavily, as the places are prone to crime.

– We have budgeted for these cameras and they will be set up immediately when the judgment becomes final. There have been a huge number of crimes in these places, says municipal councilor Aza Cheragwandi (S), who is also responsible for security issues in the municipality.

Get right against authority

The Privacy Protection Agency, IMY, decided at the beginning of last year to reject the Huddinge municipality’s application for a permit for camera surveillance in the center of Huddinge. The justification was that the places are not hubs for public transport. But now the administrative court gives the green light for cameras in several places in Huddinge.

– This year, three out of eight decisions in administrative courts have gone against the IMY’s assessment, in previous years it was only in one out of ten cases, says Jenny Bård, who is acting head of the unit for camera surveillance at the Privacy Protection Authority (IMY).

IMY has not yet decided whether they will appeal the judgment about cameras in Huddinge to the Court of Appeal.
