New EU rules for ship emissions will be “the world’s most ambitious legislation”. At least that is the opinion of the responsible member of the EU Parliament, Jörgen Warborn (M), since the new rules were hammered out by him and his colleagues in Strasbourg on Tuesday.

– Gradually, the shipping industry must now change fuels that reduce emissions, notes Warborn.

Colleague Jakop Dalunde (MP) also welcomes the result – although he would have preferred to see “a higher ambition” for the settlement reached in negotiations with EU member states last spring.

The rules are part of the EU’s large climate package, “fit for 55”. It also includes new rules for charging stations for cars, trucks and buses, which were also definitely hammered through by the EU Parliament on Tuesday after an earlier settlement.
