In 2018, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency applied for a revocation of Kaunis Irons’ current environmental permit, because they believed that the operation was not conducted in accordance with the permit and that it should therefore be withdrawn.
The Land and Environmental Court found the permit valid and the mining company could continue its operations.
The court’s ruling stands
The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency did not proceed with an appeal, but the Älvräddarna and four other interested parties did. Now that request has also been rejected and the Land and Environment Court’s ruling therefore stands.
