Clear: Denmark bans Koran burning

The decision was made after a vote in the Folketing. 94 voted for – while 77 voted against. The result came after more than three hours of debate.

Among the opposition parties, several were critical of the historic change in the law.

“1-0 to the Islamists”

– Now it’s 1-0 to the Islamists, says Inger Støjberg, party leader of the Danish Democrats.

She was also one of several politicians who raised Sweden’s stance on the issue.

– Consider that the Swedes stand firmly for the rights of freedom, while the Danish government largely bows to the violent men’s veto, says Inger Støjberg.

In August, the three-party government, which consists of the Social Democrats, the Liberals and the Moderates, put forward the proposal to ban the burning of holy scriptures. During today’s vote, Radikale Venstre was the only opposition party that voted for the government’s bill.

Sweden is reviewing the issue

In connection with the Danish government’s announcement in August, Magdalena Andersson (S) called a press conference and said that she hoped that Sweden would be able to back Denmark.

After this summer’s Koran burnings, the threat to Sweden and Denmark has increased – and the Swedish government is reviewing the ordinance and whether it would be possible to ban it in Sweden.
