Cleaning up drug waste from now on paid for by the government: ‘You can’t do it to a private person’

Cleaning up drug waste from now on paid for by

The environment and innocent citizens are not the victims

Under the current scheme, private individuals are reimbursed for the full clean-up costs, up to an amount of 25,000 euros. Municipalities, provinces and water boards will receive half compensation up to 25,000 euros. According to Minister Yesilgöz-Zegerius, the measures are sufficient for most dumping. But sometimes the costs are higher and in those cases the government wants to avoid cases where an innocent private person has to pay a large bill or the environment suffers if there is not enough money.

That is why private individuals are fully reimbursed for costs up to 200,000 euros. Municipalities, provinces and water boards are reimbursed half for costs up to 50,000 euros, everything above that is fully reimbursed up to an amount of 200,000 euros.
