Cleaning roller shutters only takes a few minutes with this tip

Now is a good time to do it cleaning roller

Rolling shutters get dirty quickly, especially in winter. Cleaning them is not easy at first glance, except with a little method and simple to use products.

Among the tasks of spring cleaning, there is one that is too often forgotten but which makes a real difference in the appearance of your house: the condition of the roller shutters. Often white or black, they quickly reveal traces of wear, dust or mold, particularly after winter. Humidity does not go well in the long run with the covering of roller shutters, whether they are PVC, aluminum or wood.

Can you imagine this painful and tedious task? Maintaining roller shutters can sometimes seem unnecessary or time consuming, but with the right tips it can be done quickly and efficiently. Unlike casement shutters, however, roller shutters require a little more attention to avoid damaging their delicate mechanism.

To effectively clean these slats, several options for household products are available to you. Black soap is particularly recommended but white vinegar, baking soda or dishwashing liquid can also produce good results. A specialist in rolling shutters, the company Tryba recommends mixing a few drops of white vinegar with soapy water and soaking a sponge in this mixture.

No matter which product you choose, in any case dilute it with water and use a soft sponge to gently scrub the surfaces. For hard-to-reach places, opt for a soft-bristled brush and soak it in the cleaning mixture of your choice before gently scrubbing each corner of the shutter. In any case, avoid abrasive sponges which could cause micro-scratches on the shutter material, particularly if dust, earth or sand from the Sahara wind has been deposited on your shutters. Then rinse your roller shutters.

To access each blade and achieve a thorough cleaning, you can also use a toothbrush to gently scrub the inside of the grooves, being careful not to neglect the gaps between the blades. Also remember to clean the rails on each side as well as the box located at the top of the shutter. Once cleaning is complete, rinse with plenty of clean water and allow to dry completely before reassembling the roller shutter. And it’s (already) finished! Your roller shutters will be ready for the sunny days.
