“Clean”, the new M6 social comedy worn by Alix Poisson, is inspired by a British series that had had its effect in 2019.
The series Clean She will appear UFO in the M6 programs grid, accustomed to successful games and American productions. French fiction in just 4 episodes, broadcast in preview in Series Mania before its launch on the six on April 4, 2025, walks in the footsteps of social comedy, plunging into the world of cleaning women. We follow Lola, a single mother played by Alix Poisson, who struggles to reach both ends and who one day surprises a conversation on an initiate offense in the bank she cleans.
Tired of seeing the rich enrich themselves and again, Lola then decides to take advantage of these stock markets. With her best friend and colleague Jess (Léonie Simaga), she embarks on a risky scam to repay her debts. But this double life will quickly lead him into dangerous situations …
Made by Claire Lemaréchal and Franck Philippon, Clean Inspire freely from the British series Cleaning Upcreated by Mark Marlow and broadcast in 2019 on ITV. In both cases, the heroine is a cleaning lady riddled with debts who spies on a bank’s traders to take advantage of their privileged information.
Clean better than Cleaning Up ? What is the series worth?
According to the first criticisms, the French version however stands out from the original by its tone, closer to comedy than the English “drama”. The rhythm of the first two episodes is supported and comedy skillfully built. The main characters, embodied with accuracy by Alix Poisson and Léonie Simaga, are endearing and credible.
On Metacritic, the British series Cleaning Up obtained a score of 57/100. Across the Channel, she had been moderately appreciated, The Guardian greeting a “rare and precious joy” despite some lengths, while The Times considered certain elements “not very plausible”. Despite this mixed reception when it was released, it obtained 92% positive reviews on the Rotten Tomatoes site.
On the French side, the first criticisms are more involved in Clean. For Fnac scout, the program manages to capture attention and involve viewers in the adventure of her heroine, thanks to her energy and her eyesless look at social injustices. Carried by convincing actresses, the series effectively addresses strong themes such as precariousness and class differences, while maintaining a good balance with lighter moments. Its short format also makes it an easy program to “binger”.
If Clean does not completely revolutionize the genre and does not completely erase its British model, the adaptation succeeds in transposing the original history by anchor it in a contemporary French context.
