Claude Monet after Van Gogh Attack on 110 million painting

After the world-famous Vincent Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” painting, Claude Monet’s painting Les Meules (Heap of Grain), which was sold for $110 million in 2019, was also attacked. The two activists threw mashed potatoes at the painting and stuck their hands on the wall where the painting was hanging. In the statement, it was stated that the painting with protective glass was not damaged by the attack.

FIRST THEY THROWED POTATO PUREE, THEN…

Climate activists continue their attacks on works of art. Following Just Stop Oil in the UK, the environmentalist group Letzte Generation in Germany targeted a painting called Les Meules (Heap of Grain) by Claude Monet, which is on display at the Barberini Museum in Postdam. The two activists first threw the mashed potatoes at the painting, then glued their hands on the painting hanging. In a statement, the spokesperson of the museum stated that the attack was unacceptable and that the painting with protective glass was not damaged by the attack.

In the statement made by the police, it was stated that two activists were taken into custody and that an investigation would be launched against them for trespassing and causing material damage to the museum. The group called Letzte Generation is demanding that the German government take drastic measures to protect the climate and abandon the use of fossil fuels.

The painting, which is part of the Les Meules painting series Monet painted between 1888 and 1891, was purchased by Hasso Plattner for $110.7 million in 2019.
