Five years ago, Adam developed a lump on his neck. Last year it turned out to be a rare, aggressive form of cancer. A ganglioneuroblastoma. After surgery the tumor was gone, but it came back quickly, hard and spread. The treatment is not performed in the Netherlands and is therefore not reimbursed by the health insurer. In Spain, where they follow the American guidelines, they do. A last straw that his parents grasp with both hands, because the chance of success rises to more than 60 percent. Problem: the costs. 800,000 euros are needed.
That’s why the class enlisted the help of the entire school and even the neighborhood. Yesterday, the Koekoek schoolyard was transformed into a festival site, with an auction and entrance fee. The aim, of course, is to raise as much money as possible for Adam’s treatment.
