Classic sausage giant in bankruptcy – new owner takes over

Classic sausage giant in bankruptcy new owner takes over

On February 14, Ryberg’s charcuterie in Uddevalla was declared bankrupt after having been in business for 129 years. The classic company started producing sausages and cold cuts in 1985, but inflation caused the Swedes to cut back on food costs, which hit Rybergs hard.

According to Ryberg’s annual reportas News24 took part in, the charcuterie made a loss of SEK 1.9 million in 2022.

In total, around 20 full-time employees who worked at the charcuterie, which had its production in the Lillesjö industrial area, were affected.

In an earlier interview with Nyheter24, the bankruptcy administrator has Staffan Karnå explained why the charcuterie failed:

– What they are saying is that in 2023 there were repercussions and the impact of high energy prices and poorer sales. It was a terrible winter with energy prices of 22/23 and then inflation came and food prices ran rampant, so the demand for these types of products dropped.

Now the sausage giant is saved

Now it is clear that Ryberg’s charcuterie will live on. Signal & Andersson charkuterifabrik AB and Brålanda företaget Dahlbergs slakteri AB take over the company, write Bohuslänningen.

The new name of the company will be Rybergs charkuterifabrik AB, and the plan is to double production.

Otherwise, no difference should be noticed after the change of ownership.

– This fits us like a glove and we were also seen as a good actor to push this forward. For us, it is important that it continues in Uddevalla, we are not at all interested in moving production. We don’t want another local brand to disappear, says Frederick Larsson to the newspaper.

It wasn’t long ago that there was a storm around Rybergs, due to a change in the contents of a popular sausage. Here you can read about the customers’ rage at the popular sausage’s new recipe.
