One of the most expensive cars ever sold has been under the club at an auction in Stuttgart.

After just over a quarter of a bidding, the other chopped buyers were allowed to give up when an even anonymous buyer offered EUR 46.5 million, reports German media company SWR. Following fees, the buyer may pay EUR 51.1 million, corresponding to SEK 588 million.

The car, a Mercedes-Benz W 196 R from 1954, has been run by the British Formula 1 driver Sterling Moss, who won several F1 races with it.

Despite the high price, the car is not the most expensive to date. By 2022, a Mercedes 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe for the equivalent of SEK 1.6 billion at auction.
