Clashes were reported this weekend in the south of Masisi territory, near the town of Bitonga. The situation in the east of the DRC is denounced by the Southern African Community, SADC, whose force is being deployed in North Kivu.
In a press release this Sunday, May 5, the regional organization on the one hand condemned the bombings on the displaced person camps, but also declared that it would carry out operations with the Congolese army to “ neutralize the rebels M23maintain peace by creating a secure environment and open supply routes “.
Reinforced troops
This announcement comes at a time when according to information from the Congolese Minister of Defense, the M23 and Rwandan troops are strengthening. Indeed, Jean-Pierre Bemba, during the Council of Ministers last Friday, informed the government that new personnel and new weapons from Rwanda would be being transported, in particular through the Virunga national park.
As a result of its fighting, the populations of the affected localities continue to flee in part towards the displaced persons camps in Goma where nearly a million people are already crowded.
