Claes Malmberg’s cancer has spread to the lungs

“Encourages all men to get tested” • Tells about the new role in Änglagård and the cancer treatments

On Friday is the new premiere of the fourth season of Änglagård, the musical based on Colin Nutley’s film classic from 1992. Since autumn 2023, over 220 performances have been played at the Oscar Theater in Stockholm with Tommy Körberg as Gottfrid.

Now the baton is being passed to Claes Malmberg, who also talks about the news that his prostate cancer has spread.

– It is still at a very treatable level, so it is not a crisis. The strange thing about an illness like this is that I don’t feel it at all, he says in Nyhetsmorgon.

“Very lucky”

It was only four years ago that Claes Malmberg discovered and underwent surgery for his prostate cancer and since then he has been going for regular check-ups. During the summer, he had regular x-rays after it was discovered that the cancer had spread to the lungs.

– You could say that I have been very lucky in that way. It was random things that made me go in for the first time and test the prostate at all. So I was very lucky there, even if the announcement was not so lucky, says Claes Malmberg.

He feels confident that it was discovered at such an early stage that it can be treated and is instead fully focused on taking on the new role from Tommy Körberg.

Urges all men to get tested

If there is something that Claes Malmberg wants to say to all men, it is that you should go and get tested – even if you think you are too young to be affected.

– It’s a blood test, it’s kind of worth it. It is not only an old man’s disease but even younger people can suffer from it as well. So is there any advice I want to give my fellow brothers in this life. It costs nothing and it’s good life insurance, he says.

In the past, says Malmberg, that a message like this would have been seen as “some kind of death sentence”, but with all the progress healthcare has made, he looks positively at the future and says he is doing well.

– There is every possibility of receiving treatment if you start arriving on time. So that I am privileged in this situation, says Claes Malmberg.
