“One proposed change involves transitioning from a clear bag to a paper bag mandate for brush and leaf collection in communities currently subject to the mandate,” said the municipality. “This shift aims to reduce environmental impact by minimizing plastic waste and promoting sustainability through the use of biodegradable materials.”

Paper bags offer an eco-friendly option that is easily recycled or composted, providing a practical solution for homeowners while contributing to a healthier environment, the municipality added.
The municipality also is considering shutting down the Tilbury Leaf & Yard Depot, at 4 Tower St. in Tilbury, citing “operational challenges.”
Tilbury residents already benefit from weekly brush, grass, and leaf pickups at the curb during the spring, summer, and fall months, the municipality said.
“While this depot has served residents of the surrounding areas, mounting operational pressures and costs have prompted the need for consideration,” it added.
The proposal, which would see the deposit close in July, will go to public consultation in April and then to council for a decision in May or June.
Residents are encouraged to participate in a brief three-question survey at letstalkchatham-kent.ca/changes-leaf-yard-waste-collection to help enhance the collection program and better serve the community, the municipality said.
