Competitors are getting their tractors and horses ready for the Chatham-Kent Plowing Match.
The 85th-annual event is scheduled for Aug. 13 at Jim DeBrouwer’s farm at 11451 Ed’s Line in Blenheim. The plowing will begin at 9:30 am
The winners of each class will take home $75 each.
The event also features the queen and princess of the furrow competitions. The queen of the furrow is open to those between the ages of 17 and 23 and the princess of the furrow is open to ages 11 to 16 as of Jan. 1 of this year.
Both competitions require a one- to two-minute speech related to agriculture and an interview with a panel of three judges. Additionally, the queen of the furrow competition requires contestants to plow and answer an impromptu question.
