(Finance) – The port of Civitavecchia continues to stand out as a key player in the Italian and European cruise sector. With 3.3 million passengers handled in 2023, Civitavecchia is in fact the main Italian port, also positioning itself among the leading ports in Europe and second in the Mediterranean, surpassed only by Barcelona (3.5 million passengers).
The ability to accommodate a constant volume of cruise passengers is certainly a sign of stability and represents a strategic resource for the regional and national economy. At a regional level, specifically, Civitavecchia leads Lazio with 99% of the region’s cruise traffic: this concentration of activity makes the port a fundamental gateway to the territory and a platform of great value for the local related industries. With 1.6 million people who have chosen Civitavecchia to embark or disembark (the location is part of the Mediterranean basin which corresponds to 17% of the world capacity for the cruise sector, second only to the Caribbean), the port gives Civitavecchia a considerable advantage, bringing direct and substantial benefits to the local economy.
An economy which gravitates – it must be remembered – also around the centrality of artistic craftsmanship activities present in the area, protected and supported by CNA Civitavecchia-Viterbo which promoted the birth of Lazio Artisanthanks to the funding for the Business Networks between Economic Activities of the Lazio Region, in collaboration with PromoTuscia. The November 16th and 17th at the Citadel of Music in fact the city welcomes the third Craft Weekend: the objective is to enhance the local shops, the food and wine delicacies that the area offers and to bring together precious knowledge of the past by sponsoring these resources as attractive elements of a more cultural, experiential and sustainable tourism to discover the city on the Lazio coast.
Between Saturday and Sunday there will be moments of dialogue and discussion – with demonstrations and workshops – between local master craftsmen and authoritative experts to talk about sustainable fashion, wood design, nutrition and research, visual communication and much more, in an immersive and highly enriching journey. The president of the confederation Alessio Gismondi declared in this regard: “Our intention is to appreciate the essential value created by the work of artisans through the exhibition of their works and to listen to their voice also by creating moments of discussion with great experts. We want to give life to a stimulating context from which visitors emerge enriched and which highlights the originality, talent and passion of the artisans, a knowing how to do things is closely linked to knowing how to think, plan and realize”.
The desire to simultaneously enhance the food and wine excellences, the artistic genius of the master craftsmen and the historical-artistic beauties of Civitavecchia, through initiatives such as Craft Weekend and thanks to the commitment of all those who took part in Lazio Artisanis the basis of the construction of a more innovative and immersive tourism model rcompared to the purely cruise sector, which wants to make a difference in terms of social and sustainable development.
