Shortly before the man was shot dead, he allegedly told the ITV journalist that his group was trying to get other family members out of harm’s way. The journalist continued to film as he moved away from the group.
Carried white flag
Then the shooting is heard and the man dressed in black is seen lying on the ground. The man was shot in the chest and one of the companions then places the white flag on the wound. He is then lifted away as the white flag turns red with blood.
The journalist caught the incident on film in the city of Khan Younis on Monday. In the videos, you can see the man walking along a road with a small group, standing still with his hands up and waving a white flag.
IDF denies ‘field executions’
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told ITV News that they are not aware of the incident and deny “field executions”.
“It is imperative to emphasize that the alarming, defamatory and grossly wrong nature of the war with these abhorrent allegations can only be seen as an extension of Hamas’ propaganda effort to vilify the IDF and undermine our goal of dismantling Hamas and ensuring that the terrorist entity is never in power again to build a terrorist army, invade Israel, murder, burn, rape and abduct Israelis,” the IDF wrote in a statement to ITV.
Khan Younis has previously been declared a “safe zone” in Gaza. However, Israel has recently intensified the operation in the area and surrounded the city with its troops.
Fierce fighting in Khan Younis
Doctors in southern Gaza say hundreds of patients and thousands of displaced people were unable to leave Khan Younis hospital due to heavy fighting on Wednesday.
Khan Younis is the second largest city in Gaza and in recent days thousands of people have tried to flee the city.
