A snowfall warning is in effect for Brantford, Brant County and the surrounding area with “significant” snowfall expected to continue into Thursday afternoon.
A “Texas low” is expected to bring snow totaling 15 to 20 centimeters, Environment and Climate Change Canada said. Potential hazards include reduced visibility in heavy snow as the fast-falling flakes make travel difficult.
“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,” warned the weather agency, adding there may be a significant impact on traffic.
“Take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.”
The City of Brantford urged residents to “minimize their walking and driving activities.”
“Drivers are urged to use extreme caution while operating your vehicles to ensure you get to your destination safely,” the city said in a news release.
“Parking your vehicle in driveways, both during the day and overnight will greatly improve the ability to provide effective snow removal operations. Please stay well back from snow removal equipment and give city crews the room needed to safely perform their difficult task.
The city said that people seeking emergency shelter should contact the Housing Resource Center (www.hrcbrantford.org) by phone at 226-227-7692 or email [email protected]. The center operates Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm For after-hours emergency shelter services, contact the Salvation Army at 519-753-4193.
