City offers plenty of Family Day fun

The City of Brantford is offering museum tours, free skating and swimming and a fireworks display to celebrate Family Day on Feb. 20.

“Family Day is an important holiday that reminds us to take a step back from the busyness of everyday life to spend quality time with our families,” said Mayor Kevin Davis. “That’s why I encourage all residents to partake in the exciting Family Day activities available throughout the city.”

A free public swim and skate, sponsored by CUPE 181, will be held from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre. The free indoor track will be open from 6:30 am to 10 pm

Families are invited to a pre-booked guided tour of Alexander Graham Bell’s home and Canada’s first telephone office at the Bell Homestead on Family Day with a special admission price of $1 per person. Children, aged six and younger, are admitted free. Tours can be booked between 9 am and 3 pm by calling 519-756-6220 or by emailing [email protected]. Tours won’t be available between noon and 1 pm

There will be free skating at Harmony Square from 10 am to 10 pm, with additional Family Day special events starting at 4 pm

From 4 pm to 6 pm, test your Disney knowledge with a game of family trivia at the Hudson Public restaurant off of the square. Registration is required by calling Hudson Public at 519-304-4561.

Starting at 6 pm, free hot chocolate, sponsored by Tim Hortons, will be available while quantities last.

Also starting at 6 pm is the BarryO Kidshow, featuring a blend of ventriloquism and magic, followed by a reading of the classic Dr. Seuss story, The Lorax.

At 7:30 pm, Family Day fireworks start, followed by a DJ playing music until 8 pm
