City of Stratford looking at reducing speed limit in residential areas

Stratfords draft 2023 budget carries proposed seven per cent levy

The City of Stratford is looking for public input as it considers reducing posted speed limits in residential neighborhoods to 40 kilometers per hour.

In a Facebook post, city officials said vehicle speed and pedestrian safety have been among the top concerns expressed to the city by residents and many have requested lower speed limits. As a result, the city is considering two options – implementing a citywide speed-limit reduction in all residential areas or conducting a speed-limit reduction pilot program in one neighborhood.

The city is also considering leaving speed limits as they currently are.

Any speed-limit reduction would not include provincial highways, the truck bypass or arterial roads, or any areas where the speed limit is already 40 km/h.

Public input will be received by the city until May 31. The survey results and public comments collected will assist staff in preparing a report to city council.
