Sarnia Council Will Be Asked Monday to Approve A $ 75,000 Upgrade for the Ted Leaver Building

The Early-1900s-Era Cabin, Sold by Rex Garret to the Animal Farm and Dedicated in 1994 to the Memory of Late Seaway Kiwanis Club Member Ew (Ted) Leaver, is in Line for Electrical, Plumbing, Heating and Ventilation Upgrades, New Flooring , Drywall and Counters, City and Club Documents Say.

ALSO COMING TO COUNCIL IS A License Agreement Giving Club Members Primary, but not exclusive, use of the building.

About A Year AGO, Club Members Requestd a Formal Agreement, Noting Sarnia’s Contributions to Park Capital Projects Had Stopped Some 17 Years Prior.

Use Agreements with the Club for Other Buildings, Such as the Carriage House and Cabin, Are Expected in the Future, Satram Said.

“We just want to make sure that Everyone is on the same page,” He Said.

Seaway Kiwanis Pavilion Rentals and Club Contributions Will Cover $ 50,000, or about Two-Thirds, of the Leaver Building Project, A City Report Says.

Hopes are to have it done later this year, Satram Said.

Meanwhile, Another Project is in the Works, He Said.

A Barn-Like Structure Dubbed the “Thresher” Building was levelled recently to make way for a new club storage facility, satram said. The Space Was NEEDED TO STORE DECORATIONS FOR EASTER, Christmas and Halloween Events Staged by the City and Club.

“We just Maxed Out,” He Said. “I am Got Stuff at my office. Other people have Things at their homes. ”

The City Authorized The New-Build Project in January, Satram Said. Cost is Still Being Worked Out, and Community Groups Will Be Asked Again to Help Out.

“We Were Trying to Reuse (The“ Thresher ”Building), but there were too much that you had to do to try and fix it,” he said. “So it was better to just bing it down and build from the group up.”
