Applications are available at the detachment at 548 Queensway W. in Simcoe and must be filled out and submitted by Feb. 23.

Those interested in the program must be 16 years of age or older.

Capacity is limited and OPP officials are recommending those interested to apply early.

The academy gives residents an opportunity to learn more about the many aspects of law enforcement including forensic identification, community street crime, the emergency response, the tactics and rescue, the canine unit, in-service training, traffic incident management and enforcement. It aims to give residents a deeper understanding of the challenges and responsibilities faced by OPP members in their day-to-day work.

The sessions take place on consecutive Wednesday evenings from 6 pm to 8 pm inside the Junior Farmers Building at 172 South Drive, Simcoe.

The academy is expected to start March 20 and conclude on May 15. A graduation ceremony will be held following successful completion of the academy.
