In Mayotte, two weeks after the passage of Cyclone Chido, life remains very complicated. Residents lack water and food, fuel is scarce, as is the network. So, to try to help the Mahorese population, citizen initiatives are being set up such as this website, “ChidoMayotte.info” created by two volunteers.

David and Victor are both computer science teachers. The first lives in Reunion, after a few years Mayotte. The second left the archipelago on December 13, the day before the passage of Cyclone Chido. And it is from Reunion that they created this site with a single objective: “ Our goal is to relay reliable information, by combining official sources with field feedback to offer the most reliable information possible. », they explain, reached by telephone by Alexander Alves from the French service of RFI.

Different discussion groups on WhatsApp or Facebook allow them to obtain information in real time and feed the site. The page also has a comments area. They can answer questions from the Mahorais who also transmit information.

An interactive map, updated thanks to on-site testimonies, was for example created by another volunteer. Everything is indicated there: “ For example, water points, internet points, progress of work, everything related to food, all their needs in fact. »

Helped by several editors and computer developers, David and Victor wish to continue improving the site.
