On Friday, the citizens’ convention on the end of life will open its very last session. In December, a hundred French people, of different ages and backgrounds, were drawn by lot to study the introduction of euthanasia and assisted suicide into the law. The current framework envisages, as a last resort, only deep and continuous sedation. Two weekends a month, these citizens meet to interview specialists on the issue, to discuss in small groups, and to propose a new framework, under the watchful eye of the Cese, the Economic, Social and Environmental Council.
