Supported by the Dassault Systemes 3DEXPERIENCE Labthe start-up EEL Energy and AES work for a more environmentally friendly world. To produce a green energyone was inspired by the ocean and the movement of the ripple, the other designed his project based on the model of the circular economy from the recycling of waste.
The ripple of water as a source of energy
Since 2011, EEL Energy has been working on the design of a non-invasive undulating membrane system, imitating the movement of the fish and intended to produceelectricity.
Franck Sylvain, CEO, explains: “ Undulation is the best way to move forward. If I ask you what is the fastest animal in the world? You will answer me the cheetah. However, it is the sailfish, whose speed can reach 110 km/h. Based on this observation, it seemed logical to us to work to harvest the energy created by the power of undulation. »
The system is simple in appearance: the membrane undulates under the pressure moving fluid. These periodic deformations of the structure are then transformed into electricity via an electromechanical system. The entire surface of the membrane is therefore a sensor of energy. The advantages are numerous since the energy produced is renewable, cheaper, the nuisance sound is totally absent and the visual impact almost non-existent. Recycle energy to create energy
In the theme of the circular economy, the Germans from AES, the second start-up presented, are looking into a system for creating energy from recycling waste. For two and a half years, they have been working on the design of a completely autonomous mini-recycling plant that can be controlled remotely. At the end of the recycling cycle, an oil is harvested, with multiple future uses.
According to Marco Karber, managing partner at AES: “ The oil produced can then be used to generate electricity or heator to make new plastics. From plastic waste, to oil to return to plastic. » The very principle of the circular economy.
At the moment, AES is focusing on retirement homes and producers of plastic. But they are also contacting companies engaged in the “de-plasticization” of the ocean.
