Wes Anderson’s films are always eagerly awaited by French moviegoers. His last feature film, Asteroid City, is to be discovered in the cinema since this Wednesday, June 21, 2023. Presented in official competition at the Cannes Film Festival, the director has once again left empty-handed. But his film does not fail to win the support of the press and collects the score of 3.3/5 positive opinions on Allociné.

The Cahiers du Cinéma believe thatAsteroid City “is certainly one of the most moving films of its author”, while Cinemateaser salutes a feature film “melancholic and wonderful, life in better”. For Here, the film is “simply splendid”, when Télé-Loisirs salutes a “visual splendor” which “is adorned with a deep reflection on our loss of bearings during the pandemic.” For Le Pariisen, this “delirious fantasy, halfway between filmed theater and science fiction comedy” is served by “a dazzling cast”.

But the press is not unanimous on Asteroid City. Among the disappointed, let us quote Télé 7 Jours, which considers that the film “turns quickly at vde” and that “the emotion does not surface” in this “proposal of cinema a bit too radical”. The specialized magazine Première considers that the director’s “miniaturistic delirium” “ultimately prevents life from springing from its frames”, “his cinema is more than ever locked in obsessions which run on empty and no longer produce any emotion ” .
