Christopher Nolans favorite actor Michael Caine has had enough and

Michael Caine has been in front of the camera for 73 years, an actor of the century. He became a star with Get Carter and Christopher Nolan gave him an unexpected final career chapter. He played the butler Alfred in the three Batman films released between 2005 and 2012. Director Nolan didn’t want to do without his favorite actor in Interstellar, Inception and Dunkirk either.

In a new interview with the Telegraph, Caine pulls one An end to his incredible career – and describes the strenuous filming of what was probably his last film, which was personally important to him.

Michael Caine in The Incredibles

In the 1950 film The Night Began in the Morning, Caine received his first role, listed only as “Tea Boy”. Back then, Batman was just 11 years old and Michael Caine was 17. Now he’s British “damn 90 years old and can’t walk properly anymore and all that. I’m sort of retired now. Anyway…”, he says.

That sounds grim and exhausted. Is Caine serious this time? He had already announced the end of his career in 2015, but “I wasn’t 90 back then.” The times have changed.

On the subject:

Michael Caine’s probably last film is a war story

Based on these statements, it seems very unlikely that Caine will drag himself onto a film set again. So In Full Bloom could be his last film. It is based on the true experiences of a World War II veteran who breaks out of his nursing home to celebrate the 70th anniversary of D-Day. Michael Caine plays the lead role of veteran Bernie Jordan. “That could have been me”he says about the role.

I hadn’t made a film in three years and thought I was done. And suddenly I did it and had a wonderful time.

However, the shoot was stressful for Caine. He couldn’t walk without help:

They gave me a very good cane and I was able to act in scenes that required it. I only did it once and then I fell over.

Director Oliver Parker adapted the filming speed to the main actor: “We made sure that Michael didn’t work too hard”he says.

A German cinema release has not yet released In Full Bloom with Michael Caine.
