Christophe Gans’ film magazine back after 40 years!

Christophe Gans film magazine back after 40 years

Long before becoming the cult filmmaker we know today, Christophe Gans was previously a journalist specializing in cinema. And in the early 1980s, the latter decided to found a magazine dedicated to the Seventh Art, but with his own vision, references and culture. In this adventure, he is not alone of course, he is even accompanied by a complete editorial team made up of Nicolas Boukhrief (also a filmmaker today), François Cognard, Hélène Merrick, FAL, Doug Headline and Christophe Lemaire . These men and women have decided to meet again 40 years later, not only to celebrate this anniversary date of the magazine, but also to offer a new reading of today’s cinema, with their baggage for some, but also their new director’s expertise for others. The result is a special issue of more than 200 pages to be published in June 2023 and launched on the crowdfunding platform Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Finally, and this is quite normal given Gans’ voracious appetite for video games, this Starfix vintage 2023 will also devote a large file to the links between video games and cinema, whose narratives are in the process of interpenetrating more than ever in the history of both mediums. What are these games that look like movies? What are the bridges between Avatar and God of War? Do you know that The Double Life of Véronique (1991) by Krzysztof Kieslowski inspired the game Immortality? That Silent Hill is based throughout on L’Échelle de Jacob (1990) by Adrien Lyne? So many subjects that will be discussed in this special issue, of which here are some images.
