Christophe Gans film has found its main actor

As filming is about to start (it’s scheduled for mid-March in Serbia, then in Germany), the new film Silent Hill (real name Return to Silent Hill) by Christophe Gans is getting talked about again thanks to revelations made by the German site Filmportal. The latter has indeed revealed the name of the main actor, a certain Jeremy Irvine, who will take on the main role of James Sunderland. Little known to the general public, Jeremy Irvine was nevertheless the hero of the film War Horse by Steven Spielberg in 2011, before chaining small roles. Now 32, the British comedian will have the heavy task of taking on the role of the hero of Silent Hill 2, plagued by madness and supernatural events.

Cinema and Video Games

Filmportal also revealed the name of the director of photography, a certain Benoît Debie, who is none other than Gaspar Noé’s longtime collaborator since he has worked on each of his films since Irréversible. Another important detail revealed by the German site is the synopsis of this Return to Silen Hill which uses the same plot as Konami’s cult Silent Hill 2, of which here are the writings:

Guided by the shadows of his past, James Sunderland returns to Silent Hill to reunite with his lost love, Mary Crane. But the dark and oppressive little town is no longer the place of his memories. James encounters characters who seem too familiar to him and who try to distract him from his quest for Mary. The more he searches for Mary, the more he begins to wonder if this is all still real, or if he has fallen into the dark underworld of Jacob Crane.

We can see that Christophe Gans has also allowed himself a few liberties, with the integration of the character of Jacob Crane, who is none other than a new character, and which will allow new things to be introduced so that the player who knows the game by heart does not sail too much on familiar ground. The project for Gans is therefore doubly complicated: to make a good film of anguish and horror, but also a good adaptation of the video game.
