Christian Bale is hardly recognizable in the first picture for

Horror fans have been waiting for months for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s remake of the classic The Bride of Frankenstein, which conquered the big screen under Universal in 1935 and is scheduled to hit theaters in a new look in 2025. While Batman star Christian Bale in The Bride! will perform the cult role of Frankenstein’s monster, Jessie Buckley (Little Dirty Letters) will embody the eponymous bride of the monster.

Now there is first pictures of the two – and the transformation bears great fruit, especially for Christian Bale. The actor is hardly recognizable with a severely disfigured face.

The black-and-white image, shared by Maggie Gyllenhaal (via Variety ), shows Christian Bale with a scarred face and a new head of hair, which he gallantly brushes back. There is a striking tattoo on his chest, which is also scarred lettering “Hope” carries. The interpretation of the cult figure is therefore vaguely reminiscent of the new adaptations of Joker in Suicide Squad or The Crow, which also recently featured a modern look (and plenty of tattoos). Bale revealed to The Hollywood Reporter in February this year that he had to shave his head for the role – and also explained his joking training regime:

I have to squeeze myself into the frame now, my bones break and eat plenty of fertilizer or something to try to grow.

In the second picture for The Bride! Jessie Buckley stars in the eponymous role. Here we see the actress with blonde curls and makeup – or blood? – smeared mouth:

When is The Bride coming to the cinema?

During The Bride! Originally conceived as a Netflix production, the film will now be released under Warner Bros. am October 2, 2025 come to the cinemas. Maggie Gyllenhaal is responsible for directing and writing the script and also serves as producer.
