Hardly any other film represents the mixed to negative reception of Phase 4 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as much as Thor 4: Love and Thunder. Even though the blockbuster was financially successful at the box office, it set a negative record for Marvel. And the Moviepilot community rated the film with a moderate average of 5.8 points.
Now a new portrait of Thor star Chris Hemsworth has been released, in which the actor doesn’t mince words about his performance in the film.
Superhero Chris Hemsworth sees Thor 4 as a personal failure
In the longer Vanity Fair article covering Hemsworth’s acting career to date, the actor also briefly talks about his performance in Thor 4. In his own opinion, he went over the top with the MCU blockbuster:
I got caught up in the improvisation and the craziness and became a parody of myself. I didn’t get it right.
After Thor 3: Judgment Day, directed by Taika Waititi, relied much more heavily on humor exaggerated gags every second in the sequel it’s too much of a good thing for many MCU fans. As an uninhibited comedy parade in which even serious or dark scenes are broken up by a funny interlude in the next moment, Thor 4 is one of the most controversial MCU blockbusters.
