Season 4 of HPI is arriving on TF1. The series led by Audrey Fleurot was programmed in May on the first channel and images of the new episodes were revealed…

The HPI series is preparing to make its big return to the screens in May 2024 with a season 4 which promises to keep its many admirers in suspense. TF1 has announced that the first episodes of this new season will be broadcast from May 16, but with a particularity this year: the broadcast will be split into two periods, in May then September, with 4 episodes each. A cutting with an ax (or billhook or chainsaw, it depends) which has already started to raise questions among fans.

At the HPI casting, the essential Audrey Fleurot, in the role of Morgane Alvaro, explained that this two-stage broadcast was due to exceptional circumstances. In fact, the last two episodes of the season could not be filmed on time due to a workers’ strike. “In June, we are filming the last two episodes of the series, which we were unable to produce due to the strike of intermittent workers. This explains why the programming will be done in two stages,” he said. she confided to Télé 7 Jours.

The first four episodes will therefore be available from May 16 to June 6, while the last four will be broadcast from September 29 to October 20. This unique broadcast configuration is a first for the series.

Season 4 of HPI obviously takes up the general idea of the program: Morgane, a single forty-something, is the mother of three children. This rebellious personality, with an IQ of 160, worked as a cleaner at the police station. Her life was completely turned upside down when her deductive skills and her intelligence were spotted by the police, who offered her the opportunity to become a consultant… even though Morgane hates the police!

The new season centers around the surprising development of Morgane Alvaro, who discovered herself unexpectedly pregnant at the end of season 3. This unwanted pregnancy will be the heart of the intrigues, always with this family and humorous angle characteristic of the series. “Morgane discovered she was pregnant a little late in life. An unwanted pregnancy. What’s funny is that it’s her two grown children who will take matters into their own hands. They absolutely don’t want their mother to have another baby and are harassing her to have an abortion and since Morgane can’t stand being forced to do anything, she’s going to keep it,” Audrey Fleurot has already revealed.

Alongside these family adventures, season 4 of HPI also promises its share of suspense and mystery with “an episode that takes place in three different eras”, a serial killer to unmask, as well as a new commander described as “sexy ” by the writers, which will add a little spice to Morgane’s already tumultuous life.

And she is not alone…”, a direct allusion to her pregnancy which will undoubtedly play a central role in the new episodes.

It introduces Morgane Alvaro, a woman with high intellectual potential (IQ 160) but particularly complicated on a daily basis, who helps the Lille police to resolve complex investigations . The series is a huge success in France, surpassing the symbolic bar of 10 million viewers for its third episode. On average, 11.5 million viewers watched this first season, including replays.

Faced with the colossal success of the first round of episodes, HPI was unsurprisingly offered a season 2. This is broadcast on TF from May 12 to June 16, 2022. In this sequel, Morgane resumed her life with Ludovic but finds himself in financial difficulties. His feelings for Karadec also get in the way of his romantic stability. For its part, Karadec is under investigation by the IGPN.

With as much success as ever, HPI has been renewed for a season 3. This began its broadcast on May 11, 2023 and ended on June 29 with the eighth episode. Season 3 of HPI picks up six months after the events of the end of season 2. Morgane has become a housekeeper again after cutting ties with Karadec. But she finds herself involved in a new investigation, which should see her reconnect with the DIPJ.

The HPI series is a TF1 production broadcast on the first channel since April 29, 2021. Season 1 has eight episodes, two being broadcast every Thursday evening on the front page until May 20, 2021. The series was then renewed for one season 2, still on the first channel, broadcast from June 12 to 16, 2022. Season 3 is broadcast on the front page from May 11, 2023. Season 4 was scheduled in two stages:

The new season of HPI will be available in full on the TF1+ platform for those who would like to catch up with the episodes or relive Morgane’s previous adventures. Note also that episodes from previous seasons have also been made available on the platform streaming by Disney+ subscription. It can be accessed via computer, smartphone, tablet or Smart TV.

Audrey Fleurot has played the heroine of HPI, Morgane Alvaro since 2021. A jubilant role for the actress previously seen in Le Bazar de la Charité: “It’s very cathartic to play such an excessive, funny character, with this sartorial look completely outrageous, it’s something I couldn’t handle in life,” she said in an interview with 20 minutes at the launch of the series.

To prepare to play an HPI (high intellectual potential) character, the actress obtained information on the Internet, and benefited from the knowledge and documentation of co-creator and co-writer Alice Chegaray-Breugnot, whose father is also HPI. But Audrey Fleurot wants to point out: “We are not pretending to make a documentary on HPIs”. She also didn’t have any training to play a police consultant. The French actress, previously seen in Engrenages or Kaamelott, invested in the creation of HPI, pushing the creators to choose Mehdi Nebbou to play her on-screen partner.

TF1 is used to adaptations of foreign series, as was the case in recent years with Gloria, A Man of Honor or I promise you. But unlike the other fictions on the first channel, HPI is completely new: it is neither an adaptation nor a foreign remake, but a 100% original fiction!

Why is HPI criticized by some Internet users?

Before its season 1 aired in 2021, the detective series HPI attracted criticism. Some Internet users protested about the representation of HPI that the series conveyed before its broadcast on TF1. This is particularly the case of journalist Clément Garin: “Being an HPI myself, I am outraged by this ultra-caricatural scenario. What is the idea? To suggest that the HPI are crazy at 18 voltage? I often complains about nothing but here, I am dismayed.

For another person on Twitter, HPI seems to be “a series of totally false clichés about HPI.. Already 160 qi then the French curve stops at 150… Beyond that we don’t calculate.. It’s going to be still hard to live with for real HPIs.”
