The country’s annual trade surplus increased to a record 992.1 billion dollars in 2024.

China’s exports broke records in 2024, despite sluggish domestic consumption and a prolonged crisis in the country’s real estate sector.

According to customs data, China’s exports grew by 5.9 percent from the previous year, while imports grew by 1.1 percent in the same period.

In December alone, exports grew by 10.7 percent, exceeding forecasts of about 7 percent.

China’s annual trade surplus thus increased to a record 992.1 billion dollars in 2024.

Among other things, a Hong Kong newspaper reported on customs information South China Morning Post.

The information was published only a week before Donald Trump returns to the presidency of the United States on January 20.

Trump has said he plans to impose massive tariffs on China when he returns to the White House. If Trump carries out his threat, it would likely slow down Chinese exports this year.
