(Finance) – China And United States have reached an understanding on enhancing cooperation to address the crisis climate through dialogue and the acceleration of concrete actions by the end of the decade. The announcement came a few hours before the expected meeting between the presidents Joe Biden And Xi Jinping in San Francisco. The operational core of this initiative will be jointly led by the special climate envoys of the United States and China – John Kerry and Xie Zhenhua – after the diplomats met from November 4 to 7 in SunnylandsCalifornia, to unblock a stalled dialogue and start a new chapter in collaboration between the two nations.
The working group will plan the facilitation of the exchange of information on policies, measures and technologies for the control and reduction of emissions, aiming to share experiences, identify and strengthen cooperation projects and evaluate opportunities for implementing the Joint statement. A “technical cooperation working group” focused on methane reduction, with particular attention to China, the world’s main producer of this greenhouse gas.
The joint declaration also establishes the intention to develop specific actions and objectives on methane reduction, to be integrated into national reduction plans emissions by 2035known as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC). The United States and China are committed to working together and engaging others to address this critical challenge, considered one of the greatest of the current and future generations.
Reaffirming the commitment to the objectives of theParis Agreement of 2015, which aims to keep global warming “well below” 2 degrees Celsius and pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5 degrees Celsius, China and the United States have agreed to recognize their key role in determining the success of the Cop28 Of Dubai.
