(Finance) – Manufacturing activity in China is picking up slightly, in line with analysts’ expectations.
According to the monthly survey of Caixin/Markit, the manufacturing PMI it rose in January to 49.2 points from the previous 49, however remaining below the critical threshold of 50 points, between phases of expansion (values above 50 points) and contraction (values below 50 points).
“Both manufacturing supply and demand continued to shrink last month as COVID-19 infections remained high,” said Wang Zhe, senior economist at Caixin Insight Group. for the fifth and sixth consecutive months, respectively, but the contraction was more contained than in December.
