In the news of the American Washington Post newspaper, which is based on “western authorities”, it was claimed that China will build a military base in Cambodia, exclusively for its own army.
EXTRAORDINARY PRECAUTIONS ARE TAKEN TO HIDE
It was noted in the news that both countries denied these allegations, but took extraordinary measures to hide this attempt. It has been suggested that the secretly constructed military base will be in the northern part of Cambodia’s Ream Naval Base in the Gulf of Thailand and the groundbreaking ceremony will be held this week.
Officials speaking to the newspaper emphasized that Beijing attaches great importance to this military base and that China sees its rise there as “a part of a global trend towards a multipolar world”. The base it will establish in Cambodia after Djibouti will be China’s second military base abroad.
MEETING WITH ANOTHER COUNTRY
While Beijing denied these allegations, a Chinese official speaking to the Washington Post confirmed that part of the Ream Naval Base will be used by the Chinese military. It was alleged that the Beijing administration was also in talks with Equatorial Guinea for a military naval base.
The Pentagon did not comment on the allegations that China will establish a base in Cambodia. (AA)
