The UN special envoy for Yemen and the Chinese special envoy for the Middle East met on Friday July 7. Hans Grundberg discussed with Zhai Jun “ways to strengthen international support for the mediation” currently being conducted by the UN in an attempt to end the war that is dividing the country. A very diplomatic language and no concrete announcement punctuated this meeting, but it nevertheless underlines that China, which plays an increasingly important role in the Middle East, is also interested in the Yemeni file.
