“Chill, she hasn’t had a long rest yet.”

You can quickly find the first healer who is supposed to help you in Baldur’s Gate 3 in the Emerald Grove. But on reddit the community is now discussing whether Nettie is a good healer at all. A very specific scene is crucial for this.

Who is the healer Nettie? Nettie is one of the NPCs in Baldur’s Gate 3 that you will meet quite quickly in Act 1. The dwarf belongs to the druids from the Emerald Grove and is an apprentice of Halsin.

Since Halsin is not in the grove at this time, you will be sent to Nettie instead, who may be able to help you with your parasite.

Why does the community doubt her now? Already the first scene that Nettie introduces in the game makes the players doubt her ability as a healer. In this scene, Nettie is tending to an injured bird.

In a short dialogue with the bird after the sequence, you learn that it is still injured after Nettie’s treatment. As a player, you even have the opportunity to help the little animal yourself with spells or healing potions.

This is exactly what is causing the community to now debate whether Nettie is a good healer or not. “Mewnbugg” claims in the original reddit post that Nettie can’t really be a good healer.

However, quite a few voices are raised that instead protect the learning dwarf. For example, “ferzerp” writes in his answer: “The bird was injured naturally and healing it wouldn’t do much for the balance. Very Druid-like.”

As an argument against this, “eabevella” claims that the bird was hit by goblin arrows and that is probably not very natural. However, this is directly refuted by “N3rval”, who claims that goblin arrows are quite natural in this world.

In addition, other players find arguments why Nettie is not as bad a healer as the scene might suggest:

  • UndeadAnneBoleyn writes: “Chill, she hasn’t had a long rest yet”
  • MrDelirious writes: “Look, sometimes you use up all your spell slots to, um… create water and mist clouds to really set the mood for your midday bath and you just can’t cast healing spells anymore. We do what we can with what we have!”
  • JMartell77 writes: “If you talk to Halsin about her later, he’ll clearly say she’s still learning.”
  • So there could actually be some pretty good reasons why Nettie’s attempt to cure the bird doesn’t really work. Maybe her goal was to heal him slowly so as not to upset his balance.

Maybe the dwarf is just not as good as most of the grove’s residents said.

Players would give many NPCs a bad rating

Are there any other yokels in Baldur’s Gate 3? Although the actual post refers to Nettie, the replies also mention some other NPCs that don’t even do a good job in the game.

As “OddEstablishment9” writes: “I have no idea what qualifications you need to be a healer in this universe, but my Tav left a LOT of bad reviews on Yelp.” Many players actually agree with him and like to refer to Volo, the bard, who also likes to pretend to be a qualified healer and can “skillfully” cut out your eye.

User “awkjen” also points out that Valeria is the worst murder detective in a world where the spell ‘speak with the dead’ exists.
