From January 1, 2025, the schedule for medical examinations for children is modified: one appointment will be deleted and a new one will be added.
Each new year has its share of changes. In 2025, the schedule of medical examinations for children will be modified. Parents know well that children must undergo numerous medical examinations to ensure that they are in good health and up to date with their vaccinations. So to make things easier for you, let’s take stock.
Between birth and age 16, each child must attend 20 mandatory medical appointments in total. This number is not changed from January 1, 2025, since one of these exams is deleted, and another is added.

The canceled exam is the one that was until now scheduled between the 3rd week and the end of the 1st month after birth. So from 2025, newborns and infants will have to have a medical examination within 8 days after birth, then during the 2nd week, then one per month up to 6 months. The complete list of compulsory medical examinations for children is available on the government Public Service website. A decision questioned by health professionals, such as Dr Emmanuel Delmas, pediatrician and author of the book “My child is STILL sick”. “We don’t understand why the one-month medical examination was withdrawn,” he believes. According to him, this consultation made “sense: “the clinical examination is important, and it involves taking stock of diet, sleep, checking that everyone is well… There are often a lot of questions, which are very legitimate.

Another modification to the schedule of medical appointments for children: a new examination will be carried out during the child’s 7th year. To summarize, between the 6th and 16th year, children will therefore have to undergo medical examinations: at 6 years old, at 7 years old, between 8 and 9 years old, between 11 and 13 years old, and between 15 and 16 years old. A change deemed “useful and interesting” for Dr Delmas. But he believes “that we must return to what was done before”.
Also note that the content of medical examinations changes from January 1, 2025: health professionals will now have to identify possible psychological disorders (anxiety, depression, etc.) and “administer preventive treatments relating to certain childhood illnesses, when this is necessary,” according to the site Public service. Consultations are always covered 100% without advance payment.
